I Happen to Like New York

Yesterday, Izzi and Rozi went on an adventure from Boston to New York. When they got in the car, Izzi settled in on her mama's lap, and was calm and happy from the start. Rozi began howling, yipping, and crying as before the car pulled out of the driveway. She wouldn't settle down and kept whining and crying as the car reached the highway and started to pick up speed. And, she kept barking a little and howling/whining a lot as the car headed west toward the big city. It took about an hour for Rozi to finally settle in and start to enjoy the ride. But, soon it was time to make a "pit stop" and everyone got out of the car. Both Izzi and Rozi, in their harnesses, were excited to get out of the car, but only Izzi behave herself and wandered and took car of what she needed to. Rozi, on the other hand, wriggled out of her harness and would have bolted through a parking lot in Southington Connecticut, had her mama not had an eye on her as she tried to leave. So, then it was back on the road, and Rozi again took her time in settling in. Meanwhile, Izzi had settled back in and napped. For a stretch of time, all was good, but soon the city came into view, and Rozi started up with her whining.

Upon arriving in the city itself, Rozi stood and began barking at the cabs and the pedestrians and other cars. It seemed that she couldn't controlled herself and this made Izzi wake up from her nap.

Soon, they were in Grammy's apartment, and both of them were happy to see her. The girls settled down until they were left (mostly) alone, whereupon Rozi started whining and barking and howling again and generally not being a good girl. Izzi was trying to nap, and could - from time to time - get a few short rests in. Finally (finally!) mama and grammy came home and the girls were once again happy. And, it was time to take a walk down Broadway.

During the walk, Izzi could not have been better. She followed along nicely and kept looking straight ahead and walked with a happy step.

Meanwhile, Izzi was a menace, which is saying something in New York. She started barking at everything that moved, and lots of things that didn't. She didn't pay attention to her mama about being a good girl and barked continually.

At the corner of Broadway and 71st street, Rozi nipped at the pants of a woman who was walking toward her! The woman was mid-stride, and was wearing aqua pants, and Rozi was scooped up by her mama immediately as the woman stopped and began to say something. We can only imagine that it was something about Rozi, and possibly the name of the woman's legal representative. But, Rozi didn't stay long enough to hear about it, being carried swiftly across 72nd and down Broadway. Izzi, meanwhile, was still walking politely. After a short rest at the hotel, the girls returned to grammy's for the evening, where they were really good with her, keeping her company while her mama went out for a while.

Later, they got a ride with Ricky and Elisa back to the hotel, as Rozi was put insider her carrier to help her keep her mouth to herself. Then, as the night went on, the girls quickly settled onto the comfy bed and everyone went to sleep.

In the morning, Izzi and her mama headed back to grammy's, while Rozi was left behind for a while. The door to the room hadn't shut before Rozi began howling and whining and barking again, and since it was early in the day, it was likely that she was disturbing the other guests. So, she ended up back in her carrier, where the kvetching continued until she was scooped up and went down to mama's car. And, then, she got to get out of the carrier and sit during the ride back to grammy's. Then, with her harness on, she headed back up Broadway to run a few errands. And, at that hour of the day, there were many other doggies on the street, but Rozi wasn't very friendly to any of them. Walking back to grammy's, she strained against her harness so strongly that her cries came out almost as if she were a duck: "quack" "quack" "quack" she said as she headed back to grammy's. And, finally, she was back at grammy's where she returned to being her good, happy self.

Meanwhile, Izzi was a good girl on the dog walk, and had been in a great mood and a good girl for the whole trip.

Soon, the girls will get back in the car for a trip home. Most likely, Izzi will sit on her mama's lap like a good girl, while Rozi fusses and fights until she gets too tired to do that any more.

So, an interesting few days in New York, where the girls got to see their grammy, got to see Ricky and Elisa, got to walk in New York, and got to sleep in a hotel.  But, Rozi didn't have a great weekend, while Izzi did.
