Our Holiday Greeting for You…

Many of you have probably been wondering why we haven't put anything new on this blog recently. And, by "many of you" I mean "one or two people who found this blog when searching for <Maltese Falcon> but mistyped it. So, to you, mistypers of the world, we would like to answer you.

It is, as everyone probably knows, the end of the year, and the holiday season. And, being good little Jewish puppies (well, one of us is good and one of us is little, and that's not necessarily two different dogs), we felt that it would be a good idea to have a Hanukkah entry in this blog. So, we spent the first couple of nights of the holiday brainstorming, spitballing, and leaving other fluids on the floor. And, after a couple of days, we had nothing except for belly aches from eating too many latkes!

So, the holiday continued to slip through our fingers, and soon we found ourselves near the end of the thousands of days that it must have been (as you know, if you have either read this blog regularly or searched for <Maltese Falcon>, we're not very good at math) and with nothing written. Most of the blame lies with Rozi, who had been busy trying to consume any wrapping materials not intended to be a gift: paper, plastic covering, twist ties, and so on. This meant that time had to be spent having those items removed from her mouth, which cut into our creative process.

So, then, we decided that since "a picture is worth a billion words" (again: remember our math problems...let he who is without the knowledge of the fifteenth decimal of pi cast the first stone...) it would be a good idea to just have a picture of us taken lighting a menorah. And, of course, that would also mean being dressed appropriately for the occasion.

The search was then on for yarmulkes that would be in the spirit of the holiday, and that would also fit us.

We knew that we could probably have whatever chapeau that was picked out for us attached to our heads using a bobby pin, but the problem - of course - would be that one of us (no names will be mentioned, but let's just say that her name begins with a letter in the second half of the alphabet) might try to eat it during our photo session. Therefore, a well-fitting yarmulke was mandatory. And, drawers were looked into, glove boxes were searched, winter clothing bins were ransacked (wait...that had nothing to do with the yarmulkes; that was Rozi one day when she was bored), but nothing was found. And, soon enough, the holiday came to a close, blog-free on our part.

Feeling lousy about this (or, in Izzi's case, because she yet again ate something in the back yard that she should not have eaten), we have spent the last few days trying to come up with a way to make it up to you, our loyal reader (and poor typists).

And, then we hit upon an idea: what if we had a little movie made with our mama that showed how much fun we would have if we had real arms and legs and a sled! Oh, and if there were snow. So, we hired a very expensive director straight from Hollywood, brought on lighting designers from the A.R.T, choreographers from Mumbai, and set designers from Broadway and set the whole thing up. We must have had fourteen or fifteen "takes" before we found our groove, mostly since one of us (again, no names, but the alphabet thing should serve as a reference point) was issues a lot of unreasonable demands, like the diva that she is. When the barking and growling and yipping finally stopped (she was threatened with no "greenie" and no "bone" that night), we had one "in the can" that we all liked.

We shipped the raw film to a studio in Japan where the special effects were added, and are proud to say that we have a little movie for you! We're less proud to say that we don't feel like spending the $1.99 to put it on this site (it would blow the budget for the year), but we were able to find a way to let you see it:

This is us (and our mama!)
But, in any case, we have had a great holiday so far, and since it's Friday night, we are looking forward to our Shabbos chicken!
