The color of money

It's the color of the grass as it is lightly blown by spring breezes. It's the color of the leaves as the pop out from tree branches and keep us cool when the sun is hot. It's the color of one of the labels of the yummy dog food our mama gives us. But, it's more than that.

Green is the color of "greenies," our latest fun food.

Or, if you're Izzi, the latest obsession.

These little bones are made from something that is so tasty, that when we eat even one of them we feel like we're floating on a cloud of cotton balls, our worries and anxieties all falling off the edges and away from us. They're not only tasty, we think they might even be good for us, because we feel like our teeth are cleaner and our breaths are better when we eat them. But, this isn't an infomercial for the fun snack, and it's not our way of asking you, our loyal reader, to bring us some (although, it would be rude to refuse one, wouldn't it?).

No, today's entry is to let you know that we both have some very strange behaviors (even for us) when it comes to this bite sized morsels. As you can see from the picture, they're a fun little shape, with one end looking like a bone, which feels like we're eating a piece of a tiny tiny chicken (take that!, chickens of the world) and the other one a bunch of nice little bumps that feel good on our lips and teeth and mouths.

But, here's what happens when we decide that we want one of the treats, and we do that thing where both of us think really hard about it and stare at someone who knows where they are (they're inscrutable in their hiding, darn it) and pretty soon, we'll hear "Who wants a greenie?" and we'll be all, like, huh? A greenie? Like, what's that and like is it a food or what. And, then, the fun begins.

We usually each get a greenie, and we each do something that might sound a little strange. We usually get the greenie when we're upstairs, and when we get them, we sometimes just hold them in our mouths and run downstairs. Sometimes, Izzi takes it for a moment, then drops it on the floor. But, one way or another, we usually end up downstairs, where Izzi spends more time looking for Rozi's greenie than she does eating her own. Now, you may wonder how it is that Izzi can watch Rozi, when she has one of her own, and the answer is that Izzi hides her greenie so that she can eat it later, when she's in the mood and/or when she's sure that Rozi doesn't have one and will have to suffer, watching Izzi eat.

So, with Izzi's treat hidden (most of the time, it's in between the couch cushions, a place that Rozi has yet to discover), she then goes to find Rozi, and as soon as Rozi opens her mouth (hey, they're yummy and when you want to really chomp down on one, sometimes it slips out), Izzi takes it and then finds a place to....no, you think I was going to say "eat it", but the real answer is "guard it". Yup, so Izzi has the greenie protected in a way that Rozi can't get it, and Rozi is sad because she doesn't have one. But, as you can tell, neither one is actually eating the treat. They're both just playing a game of edible "capture the flag" where the winner is the one who does the eating.

Izzi is so cautious about her soon-to-be snack that she doesn't even let the people in the house get close. She growls when someone comes by, and if she's especially worried, she moves in closely to snatch it in her mouth before anyone can grab it. Even though sometimes the person (like our mama) was just going to pet Izzi.

Eventually, the greenie is gone, and so is this story.

Except of course that Izzi has her special hiding place...
