Travelogue

I know that it's hard to believe that two young, vibrant, exciting girls like us are home bodies, but it's true. We don't get out very much, and it's not as though our mama has given us a curfew. Oh, sure, she doesn't want us to just go out whenever we want (and, each of us has had - um - incidents where we have longed for the freedom of being outside, and have gone for little jogs/runs in the neighborhood, but our mama is much faster than we expected).

And, we have both learned (the hard and electric way) that there is a boundary that we're not supposed to go past. Although, to be honest, we don't even pay much attention to that any more and yes there are times that we hear that we are going to have to wear that gawd awful collar, but it never seems to come to pass. So, like any young creatures, we always try to push the limits just a little bit.
On the other hand, we do love to go for walks in our town, and this is especially true of Rozi. As you know, when Rozi gets her harness on, or even when she just hears the words "go for a walk", she starts to get very very excited and cannot wait to get outside and explore (and by "explore", we mean pull with the strength of a team of Salukis in Alaska). Lately, in her excitement, she's barked and barked and barked for the first little bit, letting the world know that she's the boss (even though inside the house it's clear that she isn't). But, we both do enjoy getting outside in a controlled fashion and working our little (in Izzi's case...for Rozi: not so much) butts off as we go for our tours.

And, yet, we haven't seen much of the rest of the world.

We have our terrible trip to the groomer every month or so, but that's a pretty quick journey. And, plus, when we get there, there are other doggies and that makes us less inclined to enjoy the exoticism of our surroundings.

And, of course, our yearly physicals, which - ditto - stress us out so that we could be in a windowless room and..oh, wait, we are in a windowless room. But, still, we don't see much of the world on our way there or back.

We do get to go for trips to New York and even though Rozi spends over half the trip barking and crying, we can - if we want - look out the window at the trees and houses that we are speeding past. We're not sure why we don't smell any other doggies on the trip, since it seems like we're going pretty far. But, we both think that there are only a few places that have doggies, which would be our home, our groomer, and our vet. And, New York City. We're sure that there are no others anywhere else, which is why we're so happy that we live where we do! Imagine if there were no other doggies in our neighborhood; what would we bark about?

So, for the most part, that's our exposure to the world.

Oh, except for the time that Izzi got to go in an airplane to Seattle, a place that also has doggies, and plus she got to have our mama hold her all the time in the car that was very loud and had tiny windows.

So, that's why we get so excited when we see that our mama (or anyone else in the house) has a bag with lots of clothes in it. We don't know why people put so many things in a bag and then take it out of the house and then come back right away (or maybe a few years later; we're not so good about the passing of time, as we've pointed out) and the bad has so many interesting smells from outside.

Rozi is especially curious, and has tried many times to hide in a bag before it leaves the house, but she's such a happy puppy when she's exploring that she forgets to just lie still and hope to be confused for a balled up sweater or shirt or mop head. And, so, she's always politely removed and the bag leaves and we don't see it for either a very long time or in a few seconds.

And, our mama just came back from being away (and, we want to add that we were very brave girls and did not cry too much when she left and most of the night we were very good [okay, we were bribed with greenies and mini-greenies, but still...]).

And, Rozi was - as she usually is - very curious and wanted to know if mama brought us any presents and we don't think so, but that didn't stop her from exploring and smelling and being happy that she could at least imagine going far, far away.

Maybe some day we will get to go on another trip and so we will be able to smell all the smells from other places, like Baltimore and Philadelphia and the basement (this applies only to Rozi).
