Thanksgiving 2013

We have probably made this point over and over again, but we really don't know much about the world around us. For the two of us, "the world" is our home and mostly the parts that we eat in (our plates and the kitchen floor) or sleep on (the couches and the beds and the floors). Every now and then, as we have mentioned, we go outside for a walk (or, in Rozi's case, a pull-along) and there are those dreaded visits to our groomer or our physician.

But, once a year, we get ourselves all ready for our big trip to the Big Apple (which, we should mention, is a disappointing name for Rozi, who imagines an enormous amount of apple that she can eat). And, so it has been again this year. We were both very excited to take our trip, and we knew that it was coming. Izzi was a little anxious the night before we left our home, worried about the weather and the size of the city and all those things. Rozi, on the other hand, could not wait to get going and was trying to squeeze herself into a suitcase to make it happen sooner.

No luck!

We left our home when it was very dark outside, and we didn't get much of a chance to eat first. Because our mama wanted us to nap on the drive, she kept us in our little doggie travel houses, which are little rooms that have soft floors and toys and windows for us to look out, but from which we cannot leave unless our mama opens up one of the flaps [we're both still chuckling that on the drive, Rozi's tail was sticking out of one of the zipper places...too funny]. We think that it was raining during the drive because we heard water splashing against the front of the car. But, because we were in our little houses and could not see out of the windows. That was probably a good thing, because we both get nervous when we see the world fly by too fast.

Soon, the car got sunnier and we were getting closer to the end of the drive. But, first, we stopped so that we could go for a little walk, and when we did, we got a little bit wet. We didn't care, since it was just good to be able to stretch our legs, but soon we were back in our little houses.

The next time we stopped, our mama took us for a walk on the dog walk that we love, and we knew that we had made it! We like walking along the rocks and the grass, and it was so nice to be able to just relax. It was raining, and we got a little wet, but it felt good to get cooled off like that. Then, we got to see grammy and her home and so we had an excellent day. But, there would be more.

Later, lots of people came over, and we both (mostly Rozi) made sure to welcome them by saying "hello" and "Happy Thanksgiving" and "Happy Hanukkah" but - of course - we did it in our own language and Rozi is such a blabbermouth that she just kept going on and on. We liked meeting the new people and liked it even more when we got to eat food like turkey and cheese and pizza. Yum! Soon, though, it was time to get to our hotel, which was a schlep away from grammy's.

It was good, though, because we got a chance to get a little bit of exercise after a quiet day. The night was windy and a little cold, and so we tried to hustle along as well as we could, but there is a limit to how fast our (chubby for some; svelte for other) little legs will carry us).

The hotel was amazing. Here's a picture of the view from our room. Cool, huh?

We didn't sleep well, though. There was loud music playing for a while while we were trying to rest, and there was also the problem of noise in the hotel, which Rozi responded to by running around and trying to get it to stop. Even though our mama could not hear the noise, we could. And, many times during the night time, we both woke up to bark at these noises, and every time we thought it worked, and had just fallen asleep, we'd hear them again and wake up and bark some more. I think our mama was happy that she had us to protect her!

In the morning, it was time to go to grammy's again, and this time, we got to wear our pretty jackets.
Izzi was happy that she had one that was such a pretty color and kept her so warm.

Then, we spent the rest of the day at grammy's and even got to have a sleep over!

We're going back home to our floor and our sofas later today, but we've had the best time here and we love spending time with our grammy (and, for some of us, eating her food).
