Dog Days of July

We love all the seasons, but one of our top 4 favorite seasons is the one we're in now: Summer.

For us, Summer has a bunch of things we like: being able to run around in the backyard for longer in the day without those big, scary lights in our eyes; listening to other puppies in the neighborhood talking to each other because our windows are open; being able to say "hello" to everyone who walks by in a much less distorted voice, because - again - the windows are open; and sleeping on the hammock with our mama when the sun is beating down on us (or under it, in the shade, when it gets a little too warm).

But, for every good there's a bad. For every up there's a down. For every yin there's a yan. For every treat there's a .... well, there's another treat so that's probably not a good thing to put on this list.

And, in the summer, we both get pretty warm, what with our pretty white coats getting longer and longer. We do what we can to stay cool. There is a big area of the house that we can just lie down on and stay pretty cool. Rozi likes to spread her legs behind her and get her full belly exposed to the cool floor, while Izzi is more of a "curl up into a ball and get one side cool, the flip over" kind of a girl. This works okay, but isn't great. We know that our mama got us a special place to sit so that we can get even cooler, but because she spent money on it, we are avoiding it as much as we can. In fact, the two times that Rozi has laid down on it were both accidents.

We also find that if we open our mouths and breathe really fast, it makes us much much cooler. We know that everyone thinks that we're smiling when we do that, and that's not a bad thing to think, but all we're trying to do is get our little bodies down to a temperature somewhere below that of surface of the sun.

We also drink a lot of water during the day, and we're glad that our mama makes sure that there is fresh water every morning for us. We have heard that there are some doggies who have new water once a week or less often, but we're pretty sure those are urban legends.

So, even though it seems like it was only a week or so ago that we went to our spa, it was time to go again today. And, as usual, our mama knew that we would be oh so happy to go that she kept it a secret! To be honest, though, we kind of knew that we were going for a ride in a car this morning when mama picked us both up and carried us down the stairs. We've learned! If someone picks us up and carries us up the stairs, it's that someone is coming to visit and we sometimes get a little - um - loud and so we get put upstairs to relax and rest and whatever. But, when we get carried down the stairs... Well, it usually means that we're going for a ride and since our mama didn't have out that big bag that she takes with her when we go on a long ride to visit our mama's mama or to visit other people, we were pretty sure that we were off to the spa!
Before

After!

Today was a busy day there, and we made loads of new friends. Most of our friends there are white, like us, but there were some brown friends today, too. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

So, we each had 'the usual' and were done after a few hours and - boy! - were we happy when our mama came to pick us up right after our mani/pedi was over.

We didn't get our usual scrambled egg this morning because it's too hot and our mama didn't want to get the kitchen warm, but we did have a lovely brunch of cold chicken, special food for puppies, and treats mixed in! Yum.

And, now, we're cool as cucumbers, although - ironically - we don't like cucumbers so much. And, to say you're as "cool as broccoli...". Well, you understand.

And, so it goes. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
