It's a dog's life

You, who are reading this, probably have many activities that you must or want to perform every day: you have to get yourself "ready" for whatever it is you'll be doing (so, showering or - if you're a teenage boy - spraying yourself liberally with Axe); you have to get yourself breakfast, make your way to your activity (work, school, plopping in front of a TV), eat more, do more stuff, return home (if you've left), feed once again, then unwind and get ready for bed.

Whew.

Exhausting.

We don't know how you manage to get so much done in such a short amount of time. We, on the other hand (and, as we've pointed out often) have a much smaller number of tasks to accomplish each day:

1) Wake up
2) Eat
3) Nap
4) Eat more
5) Sleep

Every now and then, we add another somewhere between (2) and (4)

x) Attack visitors

But, for the most part, our days have a rhythm to them and we thought that we'd talk a bit more about each of these because - well - this is our blog and we can do as we please, right?

1) Wake up. This isn't as easy as you might expect, since we don't have any way to set an alarm to be sure that we're up and going at a specific hour. We have to rely on our mama, who sometimes wakes us up when it's still dark outside, and other times, when the sun is coming in through the window. For Izzi, this is the time that she gets all her kissing out of the way, the better to be aloof for the rest of the day. For Rozi, this is a time to cuddle into the blanket, hoping that the idea of moving off the bed is just a bad dream. It's not that Rozi doesn't want to avoid anything outside of the kingdom of the bed, it's just that the bed gravity is extra strong for Rozi (and, before you begin to snicker, it's NOT because of her relatively larger mass). But, eventually, we both get out of bed and trot down the little stairs and then the big stairs, and then we can go outside if we want. For Izzi, this is a treat; for Rozi, an annoyance.

2) Eat. So, usually we have such yummy food that having our breakfast is a highlight. Sometimes we get eggs and sometimes chicken and sometimes turkey and sometimes something else that's wonderful. But, our mama has a rule: if you don't eat your breakfast, it's your dinner. This is something that makes us sad, but we understand: rules are rules. Today we had something our mama called "dog food" and a little bit of chicken and we like the days when it's mostly chicken and only a little (or, better,  no) "dog food".

3) Nap. Then, it's time to rest up. The walking down the little stairs and then the big stairs and then eating can take a lot out of us. Our favorite places are the big green chair for Izzi (so she can look out the back window, guarding the house) and the puppy bed for Rozi (so she saves any energy of jumping onto anything). Sometimes, we like to sleep on the couch in the front of the house so we can say "hello" to everyone who walks by, and sometimes, we like to stay upstairs, especially if there's someone giving out treats.  But, we spend most of the rest of the day resting, so that when our mama and the rest of our family come home, we can have the energy to bark a "hello" or (if it's our mama!) dance around and dance around and jump on our back legs and on the couch and off the couch and bark bark bark and on the stairs and off the stairs and more jumping and jumping and jumping and then getting picked up and giving kisses (Rozi) or just being held (Izzi).  Every so often, we stay awake for a bit to dictate this blog, but then...right back to the naps.

4) Eat more. Then, it's dinner time and - like we said - the choices are good and sometimes we just hang around the table, waiting for someone to give us food that we want but don't usually get to have (broccoli, green beans, meat, potato chips, french fries...we have to stop with the list because we're getting hungry and it's not dinner time yet). And, we try to eat our dinner so that we don't have to see it again in the morning. And, also, mama tells us that Izzi gets her dinner and Rozi gets her dinner and we're not supposed to eat each others' food (but, Rozi sometimes forgets).

5) Sleep. Then, it's back up the big stairs and the little stairs and to our bed. Usually, we get a treat at night and if someone forgets to give it to us, we (Izzi) has a way of "reminding", which is to paw and paw and paw until she's noticed. Then, it's time for water (Izzi gets carried; Rozi mostly has to walk) and then we put our heads down and rest up for the next day.

x) Attack visitors. Every now and then, our mama tests to see if we're good watchdogs by having someone come into our house that we don't know. And, then, we bark and try to scare them away, but when they sit down, we stop because now they're our friend. Until they stand up and we forget who they are and start the being scary dogs all over again.

So, that's our day. It probably sounds like a lot of work, but - trust us - we've been doing it so long, it's as easy as taking a naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
