A day full of surprises!

We are creatures of habit. We like to wake up at about the same time every day (that is, whenever it is that our mama wakes up...we have no real concept of "time" or "clock" or "alarm"). We like to have our meals put in the same place (or places, if Rozi is super hungry and Izzi is not, requiring a move of Izzi's plate to the upstairs dining area). We like to have 12-14 hours a day to nap. And, we like to bark at the mail carrier every day at 3:30.

Now, we will say right off that we do not like going to our salon. Oh, sure, they're nice people and when we're done, we no longer smell "like a sewer" (whatever that is...mama says that but we don't know what it means). And, sometimes we get pretty bows and we're always happy when we get picked up to go home. But, we're not fans of the ride there and we're not all that excited about the process. It's what's needed, we suppose, to keep ourselves beautiful.

Well, imagine our surprise when our mama brought us outside today and put us in her car. This usually means one of three things:

  1. We're going to the doctor, which we hate hate hate hate hate everything about.
  2. We're going to get our hair styled, which we've already addressed and for which we hate the drive there and back more than any other part of it.
  3. We're going to visit Grammy in New York, for which we hate the drive to and from, but love the 'being there' part.

See the common thread? The "drive" part is awful, and so when we were scooped up (after having the slightest taste of bacon, which lulled us into a state of pleasure, a nice - if not so great for us - trick) and brought outside, we became worried. Rozi began to bark before the car door was open, and did not stop for the entire ride. Izzi started to shake and continued that for the drive, too. Although we were alone with our mama, it wasn't quality time. Then, we got to a place where we'd never been before and we were carried inside and that's when we got really scared.

There were a couple of other doggies there, which made us suspicious. The only time we go places with other doggies is our hair salon, and we knew that this was NOT our hair salon. So, we were confused and worried. So much so that Izzi bit our mama's finger, but it was an accident...really. Rozi kept barking and our mama left us alone and we were a little scared. Neither of us know how to read, but from looking around, it was pretty clear that we were at a new hair salon, and that made us even more nervous. Izzi has spoken often about the times she went into that dungeon of a salon that our mama thought would be good, but this wasn't that one.

Soon, Rozi stopped barking and each of us were in the middle of a morning of beauty. It was wonderful! The people there are so friendly and kind, and we really had a fun time. We know that it's peculiar for us to talk about having fun at a salon, but we did, we really did! The whole thing was pretty quick, and we were soon done and ready to go home. We know that they sent our mama a message to tell her we were ready, and then we just waited.

While we were just relaxing, enjoying the music, something interesting happened: Izzi made a friend!
Yes, that's right, she did and neither of us could believe that she had the social skills to do that, which made this an even more special occasion. Sure, her new friend is about four times as big as she is, but don't forget the story of the elephant and the mouse, or Shrek and Donkey. So, the time that we idled away, waiting for our mama to come was not bad at all. In fact, we don't even know if it was seconds or minutes or hours later (again with the "not knowing about clocks" thing), but then she showed up and we were happy! Happy! Happy!

Despite the new friendship that Izzi made, we were both happy to leave and go home and roll around on the carpet, but first we got to drive alone with our mama. Rozi sat in the passenger seat while Izzi curled up in our mama's arms.

So, we're excited about our new salon (Robin's Nest) and we can't wait to go back when we smell like sewers again. For Izzi, that'll be about 2 months; for Rozi, about a week.
