Part of the Furniture

You know how (sometimes) people say things like "you're sitting there like a lump" and "you haven't moved in so long, it's like you're a piece of furniture" and "you'd make a better pillow than a doorstop"? Well, we don't think those things are as bad as some people would have you believe (except that last one, since we don't think that whatever a "doorstop" is is a good thing). In fact, we kind of like blending into our surroundings.

Which is a pillow and which a puppy?

Oh, sure, there are beds and cushions that our mama has gotten for us, and when we relaaaax in them, it's calming and it's nice (especially if it's on the heater!). But, the problem with all of those things is that they're in a place that doesn't have much sun and - we have to say - we are worshippers of the sun! Sure, you might not think it to look at us, since no matter how often and how long we just lie there, our tans do not seem to get even one crayola color darker, but we do just love it. When the weather is warm, we especially like lying on and under the hammock (Izzi up; Rozi down) with our mama. And, from time to time, we venture into our yard in the sun and roll around or just plop our little bodies down and soak up some of nature's second best free benefit (the first, of course, is the treats that we're pretty sure fall from the sky every night).

But, on cold days, and days that make our yard filled with cold white soft stuff, we don't like going out so much. When we do, our paws get all cold and our bellies get all cold and wet and we can't go visit our friends under the shed and...well, we could go on, but this isn't a Presidential 'press conference' so we won't continue airing our grievances.

So, finding places that combine our hobby (sleeping in cozy places) with our daily goal to soak in as much sun as we can, is a bit of a challenge. But, it's a challenge that we're up to and one that we do an excellent job of addressing. For example, one of the best places to combine a soft place to sleep and a bushel of sun is our nice leather couch.

What we do think about is all the places that we can get a good nap in when we're on it. The back of the couch is a great place, especially when our blanket is there. It's very cozy and it lets us look out on the street to make sure that no one is coming within a quarter of a mile of our house, because when they do, we have to alert the family (even when we're the only two at home).

But, this is not to say that the rest of the couch does not have its charms. The pillows that are there are pretty comfy and we like the pillows so much that we sometimes pretend that we're just another pillow (sure, a bit fuzzy, but people like fuzziness sometimes). If you want to see Izzi doing her best imitation of a pillow....well, it was earlier in this story so go back. We'll wait.

You're back? Good. Another place where we like to pretend that we're part of the pillow and part of the furniture is under the table next to the couch.

Under the coffee table

Rozi likes this the best, since she can get a little bit of the sun (as it bounces around the room) and also has something over her head, on the off-chance that a meteor hits our house. We're both pretty sure that the table will stop the meteor from hitting us, but Izzi needs to be alert to intruders within the area and so has agreed to take the back of the couch as her place, knowing that if she pretends that our mama is coming into the house from under the table, Izzi, too, can be protected.

So, we don't mind when someone tells us to consider ourselves part of the furniture. We would love to!
