Steak-out

When it comes to breakfast and dinner (and sometimes second breakfast and second dinner), we have to say that we're well-fed with some really yummy choices. We get a lot of fresh thin slices of turkey that our mama arranges on our plates, and we also get some excellent food that is special for puppies (and sometimes she mixes in some really good treats!). Every once in a while, we get delicious little pieces of 🥓 (yum!). And, lately, we've been getting some amazingly tasty pieces of hamburger. It's enough to make a puppy say "enough" (but we never would).

And, then, there are extra special days when we get something extra super special and we don't know why and we don't care and today was one of those days!

We're in for a treat!
Right after our mama gave us our usual (and delicious) breakfast, she put a special treat down for us! It was some kind of meat stuck to something that was hard, but it looked like it would be something delicious. At first, we were not sure what to make of it. Rozi wandered over and sniffed it and walked away, and then Izzi did too, and we both were unsure about this new thing that had been dropped into our food supply. Each of us walked away and walked back and walked away and walked back until finally, Rozi took the initiative and started to nibble at the food. Then, Izzi came over and licked the hard part of the thing, and soon, she was gnawing at it and we both realized..."Hey, this is delicious".

But, because there are two of us and only one treat, it meant that we had to share. And, by "share", we mean that Izzi got to chew it and lick it and carry it and pretty much decide where to move it, while Rozi just looked on, helplessly. But, just when it seemed like Rozi would not get to enjoy it, Izzi got picked up and moved, and Rozi had her turn and she - too - was having a blast. Then, Rozi was picked up and it was Izzi's turn. Then, Izzi was picked up and it was Rozi's turn. Yes, we are very very bad at sharing, but we had this new algorithm in place that we could not modify, and so we went with it.

But, allowing things to happen passively and allowing them to happen only after a bit of a fight are two different things, and each of us took the "fight for your right to gnaw" seriously. When one of us was removed from our new treat, it was only after snarling and growling and generally snapping at the remover. Of course, since we are sort of little and have few weapons available outside of our growls, we fought the good fight. But, lost.

Still, we had a good time with the treat and we thought that we would be spending the day with our mama and our new treat. But, we were only half right.

Then, unexpectedly, while Izzi was noshing, she was lifted up and away from the treat, the treat was gone! It was there one minute, and gone the next and we were both in a tizzy. What could have happened to this delicious, delectable, decadent surprise that our mama had given us? Did it walk away? Was it - like the squirrels and birds and bunnies that we chase in our back yard - hovering somewhere over our heads, and taunting us? Did our mama decide that it was too yummy to ignore and did she start eating it?

We don't know. We've spent the better part of our waking hours this morning in search of this treat, and we came up empty. And, now, we're sad because we really did enjoy it. Oh, sure, we made do  with the "regular" food that our mama gave us for breakfast, but it wasn't the same. And, sure, we know that we are going to have yummy food for dinner, too, so that makes us a little happy.

But, most importantly, we have very small brains and we can only hold so much information in them (like that we're both Good Girls (!) and that our house has a whole bunch of nice cozy places to take our innumerable daily naps) and so we've kind of forgotten about our treat.

But, only kind of. We can still dream!
