The Blizzard of 2013 (Rozi's first!)

Hello from underneath over two feet of snow! Well, okay, we're not really underneath the snow, but we have been watching it carefully and we feel as though the snow has fallen on us, not just our yard!

It's been a crazy couple of days as we prepared for this blizzard. We know that it's hard to believe, but little Rozi hasn't really seen a big snowstorm. Oh, sure, it snowed a few weeks ago, and we couldn't walk around the whole backyard for a little while, but it wasn't long before the yard was wide open for us to run around and chase phantom animals. You see, Izzi has been around for a few winters, including the one from a couple of years ago when we had gigantic, enormous piles of snow. If you want to look back at this blog from two or more years ago, you can see pictures of Izzi in the snow. So, she's a veteran of things like this.

Although, since she has a built-in barometer, when the weather turns bad, Izzi gets more nervous than Rozi does, and sometimes has to wear her ThunderJacket even before it starts to snow. Here's a picture of Izzi getting ready for the storm (yes, it isn't the normal jacket, but she wanted something more fashionable and fun to spend the blizzard in).
Izzi's ready for the storm
But, Rozi hasn't been out in a real snow storm, since she's not even two years old yet, and the last big snowstorm was about two years ago. Even though Izzi tried to explain to Rozi what to expect, Rozi couldn't wait to wake up this morning so see just what a snow drift looked like. And, of course, tasted like.

Yesterday, we started to get ready for the big snow by eating extra food, just in case we had to go a day without new food. We were happy that our mama got us a big chicken a day early, just in case the store that had our Shabbos chicken was closed and/or didn't have any left when she got there. So, on that account, we were ready. But, when there's a blizzard, it's always possible that we could have to wait a long time (like, maybe 2 or 3 hours) for fresh food.

Our mama thought it would be a good idea for us to get some exercise in before we got snowed in, so we got to go for a walk in the snow last night! It was so much fun to walk down the sidewalk that was filled with snow! We had our winter jackets on and mama made sure that we both had our collars on and our leashes ready to go. (Side note: Rozi is considering getting herself a new collar. Not that her neck has - um - expanded, but she just feels that at this time in her life, she may want to express herself differently...maybe a new color...maybe a new style...maybe a little bigger...)
This collar's a little tight!
We walked all the way down the street and then we walked home and we felt like we were in the frozen Yukon, pulling our mama through snow banks as we raced home to a warm cabin with a roaring fire. Except, that instead of the Yukon, it was our street, and instead of a roaring fire, it was mama's heater that blows hot wind on us (Izzi likes this). And, when we finally got to our home, we were tired from the good long walk, and we were a little wet on our legs and our bellies, but we got dry pretty quickly (because some other people held us and our snow melted on their pants, and so we felt much better).

We love going for walks, even when there's snow on the ground!

As we got ready for bed, we were worried that there might not be electricity in our house from the storm, which would mean that we would have to walk around in the night without any lights and maybe would bump into each other and might mean that when Rozi went on one of her middle of the night tours of the bedroom, she might not see where she was going. But, when we woke up, we saw that the lights never went out, and we got a really good rest to be ready for the snow.

This morning, everyone went outside to make our backyard easier to run around in, and they did an okay job...if we were giving a grade, it would be a "B-" because it wasn't as big as we would have liked (it's a really big yard, and all we got cleared was a little square, even though we do like the little hidden corridors that we can run down), and also the ground wasn't easy to find. But, it's better than nothing, we suppose.
A little bit of our yard - but only a little - cleared for us

While they were all doing something else in the front of the house, a place that we really don't care about except for our making sure that anyone or thing that walks through it hears the wrath of us two little puppies, Rozi got curious and rand down the path to the driveway, then to the driveway! Then, she turned around and ran back into the house. She thought that she could sneak out and back in without being seen, because the snow is white and we are white. Or, at least we thought we were white. But, with the clear whiteness of the snow as a comparison, we can see that maybe we're not as white as we might have thought we were.
Rozi wants to come in
Then, after all the people who cleared our backyard were in the house, our mama (who we think made the place for us to run around in the back yard, so we're changing the grade to an "A+"), made us some eggs and we had full, warm bellies. And, Rozi needed some time to rest.
Rozi was exhausted!

And, so now we'll just relax, trying our best to recover from the blizzard and hoping that we can run outside soon, and that the snow will go away and we can chase squirrels soon. We know you're out there; we can hear your nuts banging as you climb the trees, you little banes of our existence!

Arf, Yip, Yip, Yip,
Izzi & Rozi
