Fun + Games

There are many things that we both enjoy: time alone with our mama, a walk (or, in Rozi's case, a pull) around the neighborhood, a good meal (or, in Rozi's case, two if Izzi isn't assertive enough), and sleeping. After all, when you have worked your way to up near the top of Maslow's pyramid, pretty much everything is "good", right?

But, there are parts of our lives that we haven't shared much about, since - well - we always seem to have other things on our minds when it comes to documenting what we've been up to. But, on this beautiful summer day, a day that is not only sunny and warm, but one that is not humid and for which (were we to be about four feet taller and have opposable thumbs, or at least a bit of coordination in our paws) we would let ourselves out and go running around our yard, we want to talk about one of those heretofore (and, Rozi wants to point out that she doesn't think that this is a word because it's really long and has the unusual characteristic of having not only an equal number of consonants and vowels, but has them spaced as c-v-c-v-c-v.... and so on, which - in a way - leads us to the point we were trying to make, and Rozi will just have to spend more time with the encyclopedias so we can use big words without having to listen to her mewling).

You see, one of our favorite things is puzzles! Now, we did write about crossword puzzles earlier this year (see our "Puzzled" entry on January 6") and we shared with all of you the challenge that we faced when we had to find food underneath tiny little igloos of wood (see "10% Inspiration, 90% Perspiration...and 25% Food" from last October), so we suppose that our love of games and puzzles is not a surprise to you, our loyal reader. But, we are not sure that you fully understand just how much we like to play games.

For example, Rozi has taken to running around the house with her little football, and since she is more of a fullback than a running back, and since Izzi is more of a ballerina than a football player, Rozi scores many touchdowns, which we have defined to be 'making it around the kitchen, living room, dining room, family room without dropping the ball'. She is pretty good at it, except when she gets tired after too many touchdown celebrations.

Izzi's favorite game is "hunting for critters", which involves her sitting on her lookout spot, scanning the back yard for critters, including those with and those without wings, and then convincing someone to open the door (again with the being too short and not being able to work a lock!) and then run out and try to catch the invader. She hasn't caught any yet, but she is refining her skills and anticipates success within the decade.

And, together, we like brain teasers of all sorts. Oh, sure, we enjoy a good crossword puzzle, as we said, but we also like word games and other types of mental challenges. For example, when we are asked "who wants a bone?" we have to consider whether we (individually) are in the mood for such a treat, and then must find a way to indicate our interest. Through trial and error, we have determined that barking doesn't get much attention, nor does crying. And, if we're asked to "sit", we know that this is a sign that if we plop down on our backside, we have a pretty good chance of success.

Rozi has also been practicing with the "which hand" trick, in which she has to figure out which hand (of the mean person who doesn't just give her the treat, which is annoying) a treat is in and touch her nose to that hand to receive her reward. She's gotten it right nearly half the time, and the other half, she gets the treats as a 'consolation prize' anyway.

But, the most fun that we have is with a brain teaser like this one. We had this picture taken this morning, and there are two dogs in it, but how many "greenies" (psst...January 19th entry) are there?
How many "greenies" in this picture?

If you said one....you're wrong!

If you said two...that's the right answer! You see, we were both given our greenies this morning, and the one that you see in the front of the picture is Rozi's (even though Rozi is in the back of the picture). The other one, the one that is harder to see: that's Izzi's. Can you find it? No?

Well, neither can Rozi, which is what Izzi wanted all along. And, so this means that Izzi gets to have her own greenie (now hidden and in a place that Rozi can't imagine) and also Rozi's greenie (notice how Izzi is nearer to it?).

And, so that's our fun little activity for the day, and we hope that now you know there's more to us than just our beauty/cuteness. We're all about brainz, two!
