War Games

Since the beginning of time, the world has seen skirmishes, battles, fights, conflicts, and all-out war. And, as we compose this summary, we can honestly say that the war that is raging between us is one of the most awesome battles of all times. It's a sort of a combination of "Spy vs. Spy", "Capture the Flag", and "Air Bud" (okay, not at all like "Air Bud", but that's a movie about a puppy and we love movies about puppies so wanted to mention that).

Most battles occur because one group is trying to take something (land, ports, munitions, flowers [we think that's what the "war of the roses" was about]). And, in our ongoing strife, it's all about the greenies. Yes, we've written about them on many occasions, and we will each freely admit to being nearly addicted to the little green chews. And, for the record, we're pretty excited about the cute little Nutri-dents that we sometimes get.

We'll admit that when one of us gets a 'greenie', the other one gets one, too (like we've said, one of our mama's favorite expressions is "you get what she gets"...although this is usually directed at Rozi, who seems to be a step behind whatever Izzi is doing). So, on a typical special day when we get a greenie or a Nutri-dent, we are each given our little treat.

But, the thing is, that neither one of us usually 'chows down' right away. The game is afoot!

When Izzi gets her treat, she's thinking: "Well, so I definitely have this treat, and I would truly enjoy chewing it and feeling the yumminess of it in my mouth and my belly. But, if I plan this out, there's an excellent chance that by the end of the day, I will have eaten two of these. So, this one will be my 'later' treat, and the one that I don't have yet, but which I know about, will be my 'now' treat. Oh, happy day!" (Or something like that.)

Meanwhile, when Rozi gets her treat, she doesn't eat it right away. In fact, some times, she just walks away from it, and other times she takes it in her mouth and drops it right away. Her thinking is something like, "Okay, so I have this yummy treat, and I would love to eat it, but my sister is looking at it already and if I take it, there's a pretty good chance she'll try to grab it out of my mouth. So, if I just sit here and pretend like I don't like it, maybe she'll think that it's a bad one, or maybe she'll just forget about it while she eats her own. And, then, when she's not paying attention, I can enjoy the yumminess of this treat." (Or something like that).

So, the battle between us is then similar to what people do when they have those staring contests (by the way, Rozi is excellent at those, since she likes to just stare at things, hoping that if she looks long enough, it will turn into something she can eat).

When Rozi leaves the room with her greenie, Izzi often follows, having hidden hers in a place that no one will ever find. Except, of course, Rozi and everyone, because Izzi isn't the best at hiding; couch cushions don't provide the level of invisibility that Izzi thinks they do. So, then it's a spy game to see who can eat the greenie without the other one noticing, since if Izzi eats hers, Rozi will know that Izzi will probably not be able to eat two. Of course, there have been small battles when Izzi has been guarding her greenie while holding Rozi's greenie in her mouth, so nothing is definite in this all-out strategy. And, Rozi never wants to eat her greenie when Izzi is around, since Izzi can trick Rozi some times and Rozi will drop her greenie. But, Rozi is getting smarter so that when Izzi taps her on the shoulder from behind, hoping to surprise Rozi into dropping her greenie, Rozi only falls for it 7 out of 10 times.

And, so the battle rages. Each of us keeping an eye on our greenie, neither of us enjoying that sweet, savory flavor as it washes down our throats and into our bellies and gives us such a warm yummy feeling. This battle coul

[Time passes]

We're back. All that talk of greenies made us forget what we were writing about, so we had to take a break and have a snack.

So, that's where we are. A battle that will not end. Sister pitted against sister. And, a small, green, bonelike object in the middle of it. This is an important battle, one whose victor and loser will be profoundly affected by the outcome.

Until someone offers us a Cheerio.
