The Creature from the Black Hammock

So, last night, Izzi was minding her own business, getting one of several evening naps in, when she heard (or maybe smelled something outside). Rushing to the sliding door to alert the family of this imminent threat, Izzi barked consistently enough that Rozi padded over to see what the fuss was. After a while (and, if you were to ask Izzi and Rozi, too long a while), the door was opened for Izzi.

And, she ran in a beeline for a dark area of the yard.

From a distance, it looked as though there was perhaps some sort of orb on the lawn; maybe a ball or perhaps a pile of leaves, blown to be round(ish). But, as Izzi approached, she went immediately into battle position (for those who have not seen it, it is best described as a strange combination of a crouch, a hop, a leap, the watusi, and much barking and yelping). It then became clear that Izzi was not barking at the hammock or at some inanimate object.

It was a weasel! Or, maybe a ferret. Or could be a hedgehog. What's known is that it had a white face and beady little eyes. And, Izzi was brave, barking and yelling at it to GET. OFF. HER. PROPERTY.

Who was under the hammock?!?!?!?

Whether it did or not will, unfortunately, never be known. Because, Izzi was told to get back into the house for her own protection, by people who don't realize just how tough this little girl can be.

But, she's happy that she defended the house, and that the threat to the yard and the building was gone by morning.

Rozi, on the other hand, just watched the action, then had something to eat, and collapsed on the ground for a nap.

Arf, Yip, Arf, Yip
