Counting on a Monte Cristo Sandwich

.

When Izzi was little, she found the big not-candy bar...

One day, when everyone was out of the house, we figured out a way to push the buttons of one of these black things that look like a big block of candy (but isn't, as Rozi found out the hard way) and suddenly the room was filled with music and talking and pictures. We didn't know what we had done, and were a little scared, but after we stopped being scared, we both relaxed on the floor and watched pictures moving across the big rectangle that everyone looks at.

And, we're just little puppies, so we can't be sure about what was happening, but we think it was something about a man who doesn't live in this house and who was living in a house that wasn't our house but didn't want to live in that house and he was in a little room that wasn't a room in our house and it looked like it was really dark and it looked like he was really sad. When the man looked outside of his window, he didn't see any puppies, like we do, and he didn't find any squirrels. All he saw was his place to run around and it was blue and it sparkled a lot. We don't know if it would be fun to run on blue instead of green (and we know that we get our paws cold when we run on white).

We're pretty sure that he was sad because he was hungry, but then again, we saw that a woman who doesn't live in this house put food (yum!) in a bowl and pushed it to him under a door. And, the man was sad and we think that all he wanted to do was to go outside and play, or maybe he just wanted to climb on his mama's lap. We never saw what happened to the man, because Rozi rolled over and hit a button (did not! did so!) and the light went off from the square and so maybe the man found his mama.
That Richard Chamberlain is cute! We wonder if he has a puppy...
I know you're wondering why we're talking about this now, since we saw that man about a hundred million years ago. Well, we're telling you this because it happened to us today. That's right, we were put away in a place that we could not get out of and we didn't have anyone put food in a bowl under our door. And, we didn't get to see a big blue lawn out of our window.

Instead, we heard banging in our house, and we were trying really really hard to tell everyone about it and to make the banging stop. Izzi was looking out the window in the front of our house and saw a big white machine stop and a man came out and he was holding a box that made clanking noises and he looked mean, but - then again - we both think that anyone who comes to our house looks mean (until we sniff them and they pet us and give us treats, in which case we think they're not as mean until they stand up and then they're mean again).

So, we wanted to protect our family, but there was a door that we couldn't open and we didn't know what to do! There are some doors in our house that we have figured out a way to open and so we go in places where we're not supposed to (especially Rozi), but this one was too hard for us. And, so, we did the only thing that we knew how to do.

We cried.

And, we barked.

And, we whined.

And, we cried some more.

Still, nothing was working and we were pretty pretty sure that the mean man was doing something mean like maybe eating our food or maybe he was sleeping on the blankie that Izzi likes to sleep on. But, just like the man in that box that had pictures of him moving around, we could not leave the room we were in.

Izzi decided that she needed to just rest and think through a plan, so she found a place to just snuggle down and do some serious thinking, which led to some serious drowsiness, and then some serious sleeping.

But, Rozi was alert the whole time, and some times she barked, and some times she growled, and some times she just plopped on the floor to try to get the anxiety to leave her body.

We think that it was about a billion years later that the noise downstairs stopped and our mama came to rescue us! We knew she would! Our mama is a hero!

And, now, we are free to run around outside and eat our dinner and be good puppies and keep doing our good job protecting our family.
