What the what?

This morning started out as so many do...lounging in bed, waiting for the alarm to go off. Oh, sure, Rozi had an announcement to make at 6AM, but - since it was an important message - we all acknowledged it and then went back to sleep until mama's alarm woke us up. Then, we went about our normal morning routine of following mama around everywhere except for the room with the walls that we can see through but not walk through and where there's lots of water falling from the sky (sure, Rozi has from time to time gone into that room when mama's not there, and she's left muddy footprints on the floor afterward, something that Izzi would never do since she's not as into making messes as Rozi).

Then, it was time for breakfast and we got an amazing one this morning! Yummy dog food and turkey! We were very excited because (a) we hadn't eaten since dinner last night and (b) this was the first time since yesterday and the day before and the day before that that we had this particular dinner. Oh, boy. Of course, Rozi ate on the first level while Izzi's food was delivered to her luxury suite (a/k/a our bedroom upstairs).

We began to "chow down" when all of a sudden, we were scooped up mid-bite (or, for Rozi, mid-inhale) and put [gulp] in the little jail in the house! We were surprised because we did not remember doing anything wrong. Ok, so - sure - Rozi made that early announcement and really could have just waited an hour or so for everyone to wake up and - sure - Izzi was a little bit of a bully to Rozi last night and squeezed Rozi from the prime spot next to our mama. But, these are - we would argue - minor offenses. Things that should be dismissed with perhaps a cross word and at most a little tap on the butt. Yet, we found ourselves "behind bars".

Well, we suppose that we do not need to tell you that this was upsetting to us, coming as it did in the middle of the only meal that we were going to get for hours (maybe less if anyone was eating lunch this afternoon, since we are both experts at the art of [as the French would say], pleurnicher pour la nourriture, which we just found by going online and we hope means what we think it means).

We tried as best as we could to ask for some lenience, even not knowing what we were "in" for. And, we howled for attention as we demanded that we be allowed representation, even if it were to be an assigned attorney, since neither of us can afford one and even if we could, we were tossed into the clink before we had a chance to grab any of the bones that we've hidden around the house, and which could have been used as payment.
As we were trying as clearly as possible to make our case for fair treatment in the legal system (and making sounds that very likely woke up the squirrels, chipmunks, mice, and frogs within a 2 mile radius of our captivity), we noticed a figure that we did not recognize walking back and forth of the door to our captivity. We tried (even harder) to make our case to this stranger, but still to no avail.
And, then it hit us.

We were not being incarcerated for an offense of ours: we were being put into "protective custody"! So, was this stranger here to cause harm to our family? We redoubled our efforts to get out of our confinement, an act that Izzi has performed in the past (look here if you forget). But, this time a new barrier had been erected, one that even the two of us, combining our brain power, could not solve.

And, so we continued our plaints and waited for just the right moment. The moment when this interloper would make a mistake and we would jump in to the rescue, saving our family from who knows what horrible fate (yes, we have discovered the password to the family Netflix account and have been watching horror movies...why do you ask?).

But, just as quickly as it started, it was over. Izzi got released first since she was clever enough to be quiet when the new barrier was removed. Rozi, meanwhile, continued to complain about our treatment, and - as we think about it now - was penalized a bit more by having to stay "behind bars" for another 20 seconds.

Finally, though, we were released and we were so happy and excited that we could not even eat. Then, it was time for a well deserved nap.
What a day!
